DOI Camera, 1971 – 2025

Another great Mom & Pop business gone. I’ve used DOI for my weird New Year’s cards for 40-some years (I followed them from 42^nd Street to the East 30s to their last location, on Park Avenue). Setsuko was always helpful and friendly (she worried when my cards got too dark), and I made goo-goo eyes at the handsome older man with the goatee (was he the Pop?). DOI took passport and visa photos, also developing old-fashioned film (remember the days of waiting to see if any of your photos came out?), and they did custom printing, like my little cards. I don’t know what happened to them, but when I sent them the template for my 2025/26 cards, I discovered they had closed. I hate this stupid century!
