Actress Kimberly Hébert Gregory, 52, died on Oct. 3; her family has not released the cause of death. Gregory was best-known for her costarring roles on the TV series Vice Principals, Craig of the Creek, Genius, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, and Devious Maids. The Texas native started her stage career in Chicago (the city, not the show), and appeared on Broadway in The Lion King. She did a handful of movies, but most of Gregory’s career was on TV: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gossip Girl, Law & Order, The Big Bang Theory, Better Call Saul. Gregory told Backstage of her first New York audition with a friend, “We just assumed that if you asked us to sing, we were going to be fine. I assumed that I would sing first and then they’d be like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s so amazing! She doesn’t have to tap.’ And then we walked into the room and they’re like, ‘Put on your tap shoes.’ It was a great lesson for us because it was, like, that’s the New York level. You come in with your tap shoes. That’s the thing that I would say to actors: You can’t walk into the room hoping, you have to be prepared.”
