Alexander Bernstein, son of conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and actress Felicia Montealegre, died on July 22. He was 70. Bernstein worked as production associate at the ABC News Documentary Unit, and a teacher at the Packer-Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn. He also studied acting, and had small roles in a handful of movies and TV-movies. He was president of Artful Learning, Inc., and founding chairman of The Leonard Bernstein Center for Learning. Of his famous father, Bernstein said that “there’s always the difference between the public and the private person, he’s pretty much the same publicly and privately. And I don’t know if this was particularly conscious on his part, I just don’t think he cared much about it one way or the other. He was who he was and he actually sort of got off on being himself in public and shocking people.”
