Mexican movie and telenovela star Aurora Clavel, 88, died on May 19. She was born in Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, and later bought a house in her home town and opened a drama school there. Clavel moved to Mexico City and made her film debut in 1961, becoming a staple of the Mexican film industry. She also appeared in such English-language films as The Wild Bunch, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, and The Mosquito Coast, and the TV show I Spy. Beginning in the 1990s, Clavel became the dowager queen of the telenovela (most recently La Candidata, in 2017).
