Stuntman Bob Elmore, 65, died on June 29. Elmore stunted in such movies as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, Big Bad Mama II (he seems to have done a lot of number 2’s), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, License to Drive, Everybody’s All-American, Who’s Harry Crumb?, Uncle Buck, Dr. Giggles, Casino, and Being John Malkovich. He also had small acting roles in Cover Up, The Usual Suspects, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and 14 Ghosts. (Several obits referred to him as “Pirates of the Caribbean star.” Some also called him “legendary,” with “lifelong” fans. They keep using those words. I do not think they mean what they think they mean). Elmore started his stuntman career at Knott’s Berry Farm’s Wild West Stunt Show, and trained with Gene LeBell at Los Angeles City College. Of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, he said, “I don’t understand. I don’t have that passion for that kind of movie, but there’s a lot. And it’s worldwide, it’s not here in the United States. People in Germany love Texas Chainsaw Part 2. They just love it, and they’re crazy about it. That’s what is so unique about it, and to be associated with that is great. Not too many people can say that.”
