Singer/songwriter Bobby Hart (of Boyce and Hart) died on Sept. 10. He was 86. Hart and his musical partner Tommy Boyce teamed up in 1959 and had a briefly successful fame as a singing duo, but had more success as writers. They wrote numerous hits for The Monkees (as well as their earworm TV theme song); the pair also wrote such 1960s hits as "Hurt So Bad” and "Going Out of My Head,” and provided scores for several movies. They also toured, both as Boyce and Hart, and with former Monkees Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz. The pair also appeared as themselves on such bubblegum shows as Bewitched, The Flying Nun, and I Dream of Jeannie. Tommy Boyce died in 1994. Hart told interviewer Gary James of his early work, “at that point were seeing ourselves as short order cooks if you will. Whatever was needed and whenever it was needed. If Paul Revere and The Raiders were coming up to record in three days and they needed a record, we would do something that we thought would sound like a Paul Revere and The Raiders record and demo it and get it to them in three days.”
