Character actress Bunny Levine, 97, died on Aug. 20. Levine worked most of her life as a school librarian, and turned to acting after her retirement. Then, like Judith Lowry and Ruth McDevitt before her, Levine began filling all those little-old-lady roles that sow biz has to offer: she was seen in more than 100 films and TV shows, including Cadillac Man, As the World Turns, Chapelle’s Show, Gilmore Girls, Everybody Loves Raymond, Ugly Betty, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Community, 2 Broke Girls, Have You Met Miss Jones?, La La Land, The Mindy Project, Shameless, and, most recently, this year’s The Upshaws and The Cure. Levine said that “In college, it began to dawn on me that I wasn't a good leading lady. There were other women who were just as good as me, but tall. And beautiful” (she was a lot smarter than I was when I was acting!). Levine added that “I think of myself as a very unfunny human being. But I'm almost always cast in comic roles.”
