Actor and singer Colton Ford, 63, died on May 19 (early, unconfirmed accounts have him dying in a hiking accident). Ford acted Off-Broadway, released several albums, and appeared in such mainstream vehicles as The Lair (as Sheriff Trout, from 2007-09), The Next Best Thing, and, most recently, in 2019’s The Art of Being (bafflingly described as “a visual-sonic journey meant to expand one's consciousness and emotional capacity via a story filled with hand-crafted art”). But Colton was best known for his porn career (Bearing Leather, Head Games, Gang Bang Café, Gays Gone Wild). In recent years, he worked as a personal trainer. Just last month, Colton told interviewer Tim Murphy, “I grew up in Mission Viejo, California, a very conservative white community in Orange County. Both my parents were very accepting of me. So many people . . . have said to me, ‘Your parents were so great. My parents threw me out at 12 for being gay.’ And yes, I was fortunate in that they accepted my homosexuality and my doing porn.” His father, he said, told him, "’Yeah, I'd probably do it too if I looked good. Who doesn't want to be a porn star?’ He was a character.”
