Daveigh Chase, 1990 – 2026

Actress Daveigh Chase, 35, died from meningitis on June 16 (one of my cousins died from that, it’s scarier and more common than you think!). Chase started her career as a child in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, The Practice, and ER, graduating to adult roles and eventually costarring in the series Oliver Beene and Big Love, the horror film The Ring, and voicing the alien-owning Lilo in the Lilo & Stitch cartoons. Her other film and TV credits include Wild in Blue, American Romance, Jack Goes Home, Yellow, Killer Crush, and American Romance. Chase had not worked in some ten years, and her boyfriend posted, “Behind the scenes, she’s faced more than her share of hardship. After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown L.A.” She’d recently had drug problems, and was suffering from malnutrition when taken to the hospital last week.
