Duncan Sheik, 1969 – 2026

Singer, songwriter, and composer Duncan Sheik, 56, died of heart failure on Sept. 17. Sheik won a Tony for Broadway’s Spring Awakening in 2007, also writing the music for American Psycho in 2016. He had his first hit song with “Barely Breathing” in 1996, and went on to compose and record nine albums between 1996 and 2022. Sheik also composed the music for such films and TV series as Through the Fire, Brother’s Shadow, Limp, Dare, Harvest, and Lost Generation. He was more comfortable as a composer than a performer, admitting, “When I'm on stage I'm not a big entertainer, and I'm the first one to admit that. For me I don't want to be the entertainer. I'm not there to entertain you; I'm there to hopefully make music that will move you.” He is survived by his wife, actress Nora Ariffin.
