1950s-60s movie and TV star Eva Marie Saint died on Oct.6. She was 102.  A presence on Broadway (A Trip to Bountiful) and early TV, Saint made an impressive film debut (winning an Oscar) in Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront (1954). She went on to appear in A Hatful of Rain, North by Northwest (memorably scaling Mount Rushmore with Cary Grant), Exodus, The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming, and, more recently, Because of Winn-Dixie, Don’t Come Knocking and Superman Returns. She segued into TV and TV-movies in the 1970s, winning several Emmys and playing Cybill Shepherd’s mother on Moonlighting. She recently told HollywoodChicago.com that Alfred Hitchcock “wanted me to promise to stop going from ‘sink-to-sink’ dramatic films, which meant the women in the film stared at each other across the sinks from their apartments. I didn’t make that promise. I told Hitch when I find a wonderful role that I want to do, I’m going to do it.”
