James Carter Cathcart, 1954 – 2025

Voice-over and musician James Carter Cathcart, 71, died of cancer on July 8. Sometimes billed as Jimmy Zoppi, Carter voiced many Pokémon movies and TV shows, providing the English-language voices for Gary Oak, James, Meowth, and Professor Oak. Carter also performed in such cartoons (mostly anime) as Slayers, Sonic X, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, One Piece, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Mission Odyssey (is there a drag queen named Anime Wong? I hope so). He was also a musician, playing bass, electric guitar, keyboards and drums, most notably with the New York rock band The Laughing Dogs.
