Singer and actress Joanne Gilbert, 92, died on April 16. The daughter of songwriter Ray Gilbert, she was working as a singer at the Mocambo and the Waldorf Astoria (and had a thriving modeling career) when Paramount snapped her up in 1952. Through the 1950s and ’60s, she decorated such movies and TV shows as Houdini, Good Morning Miss Dove, Studio One, Perry Mason, The Outer Limits, and Ben Casey; she also costarred with Jose Ferrer in 1958’s The High Cost of Loving. Gilbert married twice: to screenwriter Danny Arnold, and producer Edward L. Rissien. She and I also had something in common, according to a 1950s interview: “I collect lipsticks. They are such an inexpensive and effective way of making yourself look different. I have all the colors from coral pinks to true reds.”
