Soul and pop singer John Edwards, 80, died on May 11. He began singing in German clubs when he was in the Army; back in the US, Edwards was a rising club and recording artist by 1970. Among his solo hits were "Stop This Merry-Go-Round," "Messing Up a Good Thing," "Careful Man," and "Vanishing Love.” He joined The Spinners in 1977, and stayed with them through 2000. Edwards had been in poor health for some 25 years, following a stroke.
