Actor and activist Jules Walter, 96, has died, his family announced this week. Born in Antigua and raised in the US, Walter worked for years as a plantation manager in his home country, also spending much time in England. There, he worked as a model (appearing in Vanity Fair, Tatler, and Vogue), and took up acting as well. In the 1970s and ’80s, Walter was seen in such TV shows and movies as Dr. Who, Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, On the Buses, Live and Let Die, The Melting Pot, Sweeney!, The Wild Geese, and A View to a Kill. He was also active in the the Afro-Asian-Caribbean Agency (helping minority performers find work), and The Negro Theatre Workshop; he also acted onstage, including in The Black Macbeth in London.
