TV and film actor Kenneth Washington, 89, died on July 18. After making his 1956 debut as an extra in The Birds and the Bees, Washington spent the 1960s and ’70s in such TV shows as Hogan’s Heroes (only in the final season—not that I would know; my parents would not let “that show” into their house), I Dream of Jeannie, Adam-12 (as Officer Miller in eight episodes), Star Trek (the “That Which Survives” episode), Petticoat Junction, the jaw-dropping The Paul Lynde Show, and Police Story; he also turned up in the films Westworld, Changes, Hook Line and Sinker, and Escape from DS-3. In later years, Washington went back to college, and taught courses in black film history, and speech.
