Kjell Nilsson, 1949 –2026

Swedish weightlifter and actor Kjell Nilsson, 76, died on July 2. Nilsson was born in Sweden but moved to Australia, where he met and married actress Kate Ferguson; he was cast in Aussie Mel Gibson’s Mad Max 2, as marauder Lord Humungus. He went on to appear in the films The Pirate Movie, The Edge of Power, and Howlin’ Refrain, and was seen on TV in Man of Letters, Sons and Daughters, and Hard Knuckle. Since no one can pay the rent as an actor or weightlifter, Nilsson wisely worked as a manager for an Australian software company. I would add more, but it is currently 97 degrees in my office, and if I don’t get back into the air-conditioning, you will be reading my obit.
