Actress and Hollywood union negotiator Lainie Miller, 84, died on May 6. The Canadian-born Miller had small roles in The Graduate (as a stripper), The Next Step Beyond, The Gift of Life, Tales from the Darkside, and Capitol. She had started her career as a child on Canadian radio and stage—despite having been in an iron lung with polio for two years. Like her Graduate character, Miller worked as a burlesque dancer for Minsky (right down to her skinsky). In 1967 she married actor Dick Miller, famed for his work in A Bucket of Blood and Little Shop of Horrors (they remained married till Dick’s death in 2019). Lainie left acting and became a nurse, eventually working her way back into show business as a script supervisor, producer, and labor negotiator.
