Sci-fi writer Lynn Venable, 97, died on March 31. Venable wrote the 1953 short story "Time Enough at Last,” which first appeared in If magazine and in 1959 became one of the most famous Twilight Zone episodes. She also wrote for such magazines as Galaxy Science Fiction, Other Worlds, Weird Tales, Mystic Magazine, Authentic Science Fiction, and Fantastic Universe. “I don’t scare myself. I scare other people,” Venable told The Mercury News in 2012. She also made ends meet by writing for “everything from Sunday school newsletters to baby-care magazines.” Venable was a great fan of Ray Bradbury’s, she said, “Then he made the statement that the nuclear bomb saved us all from Communism. That made me so mad, I threw out all his books.”
