Spanish actress Marisa Paredes, best known for her work with Pedro Almodóvar, died on Dec. 17. She was 78. Paredes made a splash in her first film, 091 Policia al Habla (1960), and went on to appear in more than 100 movies and TV shows right through this year. She was in Almodóvar’s High Heels, The Flower of My Secret, All About My Mother, and The Skin I Live In. Her other notable films included In a Glass Cage, the notorious Life Is Beautiful (directed by Roberto Benigni, Deep Crimson, and The Devil's Backbone (directed by Guillermo del Toro). She also costarred in the TV series Novela, Cervantes, Estudio 1, and El Olivar de Atocha; her film Emergency Exit is due out next year. Paredes had a daughter (actress María Isasi) with director Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi.
