Theater director Mark Brokaw, 67, died of cancer on June 29. His Broadway shows included Cry-Baby, Reckless (not the Jean Harlow musical), Heisenberg, The Lyons (not Ben and Bebe), Cinderella, and How I Learned to Drive; Off-Broadway, he helmed The Good Times Are Killing Me, As Bees in Honey Drown, 2.5 Minute Ride, This Is Our Youth, Lobby Hero, and Dying Gaul, among others. Brokaw directed shows all over the US, as well as in London, Dublin, and Sydney. He recalled his beginnings in a small community theater in his home state of Illinois: “We did 12 plays a year with very limited money and limited means. It was really about the actor and the space. It's semi-professional. No one gets paid, the directors make very little . . . Perfect training for Off Broadway.''
