Ceylon-born actress and dancer Maureen Hingert (sometimes billed as Jana Davi), 88, died on July 1. She was crowned Miss Ceylon in 1955, and came in second in the 1955 Miss Universe pageant, the first Ceylonese contestant to do so. Both Universal-International and Fox signed her up, and Hingert appeared in such 1950s movies and TV shows as Elephant Walk, The King and I, Pillars of the Sky, The Adventures of Hiram Holliday, Gun Fever, Death Valley Days, and Fort Bowie. Hingert’s first husband was designer and artist Mario Armond Zamparelli; their daughter Gina Zamparelli (who died in 2018) was a noted historic preservationist.
