Singer, songwriter and actor Oliver Tree, 32, died in a helicopter crash in Brazil on June 14 (he was on his worldwide tour, “Love You Madly Hate You Badly: Oliver Tree World's First World Tour”). Beginning in 2016, Tree recorded such songs as "When I'm Down,” “Cheapskate,” “Hurt,” “Miracle Man,” “Life Goes On,” “Cowboys Don’t Cry,” “Miss You,” “Superheroes” and “Flowers.” In addition to directing most of his own music videos, he acted in films and TV (Making Friends, Royal Crackers, Smosh, Read the Room, Paradise Records). Tree told interviewer Molly McCaul, “Music is very much so instantaneous. I think that’s why I ultimately chose it as my main medium, because it’s a lot easier to get someone to invest even ten seconds to listen. They’ll know if they like it or not within the first 10 or 30 seconds. It’s pretty hard to get someone to watch a film. Even a music video is a little harder to than a song to get someone to, sit down and watch. But in the same breath, filmmaking to me is like the greatest art form in a sense, because it’s all art forms combined.”
