British soap actress Patricia Greene, 95, died on July 9. For 68 years, Greene played Jill Archer on The Archers, on radio, TV, and podcasts, from 1957 through last year (she was reputed to be the longest-lasting actress to play a role in a soap). She also appeared in the 1961 film The Kitchen (kind of a proto-The Bear), and on TV in Crossroads (another soap), It’s a Woman’s World, Victoria Regina, Doctors, and Casualty. “I really didn't know anything,” Greene said of her beginnings in The Archers. "I was totally useless. In the script, in my second day or something, it said: 'Jill throws a cup of coffee over Phil.’ This was Norman Painting, standing there being very kind. And I picked up a glass of water and threw it all over him and it went down his glasses. Of course we had to stop the recording.”
