British actor Philip Lowrie, who played Dennis Tanner on Coronation Street from 1960-2014 (with a 50-year gap!), died on April 25. He was 88. An RADA alum, Lowrie acted from 1959-2014, appearing in such films and TV shows as Kate, War & Peace, Crown Court, East Lynne, Tycoon, Andy Capp (they made a TV series out of Andy Capp?!), Rules of Engagement, Casualty, and Home Fires, as well as numerous Victoria Wood specials. He also appeared on the West End in Farewell, Farewell Eugene, The Mousetrap, The Case of the Frightened Lady, and The Lady Vanishes. Of his long run on Coronation Street, Lowrie said, “I'm having the best time of my life. At my time of life, to have a job that I love so much and getting to play such an amazing part, is fantastic. I can't believe my luck, to be quite frank with you."
