
TV and movie actress Pilar Del Rey, 95, died on Feb. 23 in Los Angeles. Born in Fort Worth and raised in Hollywood (she went to the famed Hollywood High School), she was often cast in Hispanic or Native American roles (Del Rey was of Spanish descent), and was a busy actress from 1949-1990, usually in small or supporting roles. Among her vehicles were Giant (as an ailing woman attended by Elizabeth Taylor), A Lady Without Passport, The Adventures of Kit Carson, Flight to Tangier, The Naked Jungle, The Miracle, Dragnet 1967, My Three Sons, The Wild Wild West, Mannix, Midnight Madness, and Hart to Hart. In 1995, Del Ray was honored at the AFTRA/SAG Latino/Hispanic Heritage Celebration for her contributions to the entertainment industry. Her nephew David Bouzas said, “She truly was our Auntie Mame.”
