Perky red-haired actress Pippa Scott, 89, died on May 22. The daughter of actress Laura Straub and playwright/screenwriter Allan Scott, her contacts helped get her early work, but her own talent and looks kept her career going (nepotism will only take you so far). The RADA grad appeared on Broadway in Child of Fortune and Miss Lonelyhearts; she made her film debut in 1956’s The Searchers, and went on to appear in Auntie Mame, Petulia, Cold Turkey, and a handful of other films. But Scott’s bread and butter was TV: nearly 100 shows between 1955 and 2013 (the shows that resonate with me are Twilight Zone, Follow the Sun, The Fugitive, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Perry Mason, F Troop, I Spy, Medical Center, Arnie, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Longstreet, and Mannix). Scott was married (from 1964-83) to producer Lee Rich. And I might add, the existence of a singer/songwriter also named Pippa Scott does not make researching her any easier.
