British child actor turned TV star Richard O'Sullivan, 82, died on Sept. 4. O’Sullivan was best known for playing Robin Tripp in the ‘70s Britcoms Man About the House and Robin’s Nest (later translated in the US to the John Ritter vehicles Three’s Company and Three’s a Crowd). He started his career as a child, in such movies and TV shows as The Stranger’s Hand, It’s Great to Be Young, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Dangerous Exile (as the French Dauphin), Carry On Teacher, Cleopatra (as Elizabeth Taylor’s younger brother), and The Young Ones. As an adult, O’Sullivan—besides his Robin Tripp roles—starred in the TV series Doctor at Large and Doctor in Charge, Dick Turpin (as the famed highwayman), Me and My Girl, and Trouble in Mind. He was married twice, also carrying on affairs with his TV costars Sally Thomsett and Tessa Wyatt. A self-described “hard-drinking depressive,” O’Sullivan retired after suffering a stroke in 2003.
