Busy TV actor Rif Hutton, who costarred as Dr. Ron Welch on Doogie Howser, M.D., died of cancer at his Pasadena home on April 11. He was 63. Hutton also appeared as Lenny Caulfield on General Hospital, and guested on such shows as The Jeffersons, Night Court, L.A. Law, Married... with Children, Wings, Murphy Brown, The Larry Sanders Show, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Knots Landing, Babylon 5, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and American Horror Story, among others. Hutton recalled of his early days acting, “I had $1,000. I kept going on auditions, thinking I would get a job that would turn things around. One day, I looked in my wallet and realized I had no money for a room for the night. I snuck into a hotel that was being refurbished and slept on newspapers, and the next night I slept in a movie theater. I finally made it out, with the help of friends. I thought then, when the time comes, I want to help. I want to give back.” Hutton is survived by his second wife, actress Bridget Hoffman (he was previously married to actress Patricia Bethune).
