Pharmacy chain Rite-Aid has closed all of its locations after filing for bankruptcy. Founded in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Rite-Aid at its peak had some 2,000 stores throughout the US, but as of its closing that was down to 89. This leaves many people with no nearby pharmacy (most of them also have very convenient grocery stores, too—I always shop at Walgreens before snowstorms, when the Shop-Rite is packed with panicked villagers buying bread, eggs, and milk, like the Cossacks are coming and want French toast). At the peak of Covid, CVS bought up and closed down hundreds of Shop-Rite pharmacies; I still maintain that they should have been clapped in irons for that. I get my many "stay alive" prescriptions and vaccines at my local Walgreens, but I guess no one is getting vaccinated anymore except for me.
