Actor and director Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife (since 1989), Michele, were found dead (allegedly stabbed by their son Nick) in their L.A. home on Dec. 14. Reiner, son of famed comedy star Carl Reiner, started acting as a teenager, and was a regular on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Stardom came playing Michel “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family, and he went on to appear in The Jerk, Throw Momma from the Train, Postcards from the Edge, Bullets Over Broadway, The Bear, New Girl, and a handful of other movies and TV shows. Never all that comfortable as an actor, Reiner turned to directing and had great success with such films as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally..., Misery, A Few Good Men, and The American President. “I love the idea of making movies that kids and adults can go to together,” Reiner said, “and both get something out of it, and not just, ‘Oh, I've got to take my kid to the movie because they want to see the next, you know, Hannah Montana or whatever.’" Reiner was previously married to Penny Marshall.
