British actor Roland Curram, 92, died on June 1. The darkly handsome Curram played gay characters in the film Darling and the soap Eldorado—he was himself gay, though he was married to actress Sheila Gish from 1964-85 (their daughters Lou Gish and Kay Curram were also actresses). His first love was the stage: Curram appeared in Little Murders, Design for Living, Noises Off, and other shows, both on the West End and in rep. He was regularly seen on the big and small screens, in such varied vehicles as Up to His Neck, Dunkirk, Girls at Sea, Maigret, Dixon of Dock Green, The Avengers, I'll Never Forget What's'isname, Nana, Terry and June, Madame Sousatzka (what were they thinking with that title? No one can spell or pronounce it), Every Home Should Have One, Doctor Finlay, and Holby City. In later years, Curram gave up acting for writing novels. “To enter the gay world after 21 years of a happy heterosexual marriage requires, to say the least, a little re-adjustment,” he told Out in Perth. “I’ve been there and come out the other side with a smile.”
