Actor, magician, and singer Scott Baker died on Oct. 3; he was 77. Baker appeared on Broadway in Oh Calcutta!, and Off-Broadway in Geek Circus, Home of the Great Pecan, Dead End Dummy, and his one-man show, Curse of John Wilkes Booth. He was also seen on TV (Girls, You Can’t Go Home Again, Law & Order), and and was, in the words of Trav S.D., “a sideshow Renaissance man.” I’ll hand it over to Trav (travsd.wordpress.com), who directed Dead End Dummy and who writes, “Scott was an important player in Coney’s large sideshow family, skilled as a human blockhead, fire eater, glass eater, escape artist, magician, and ventriloquist, who could eat live crickets and lit cigarettes, swallow and regurgitate razor blades, perform levitations, and be the outside talker . . . Take a bow, you old ham. I’ll never stop clapping for ya.”
