Fashion designer Sha’Vi Lewis, 39, died on Feb. 24; no cause of death has been revealed (his sister colorfully wrote that “our star has been cast into eternity”—I love her way with words). The New Jersey native had his own clothing line, and also worked as creative director for the menswear company Stephen F. He competed on Season 18 of Project Runway, disappointingly finishing in 10th place. Lewis told interviewer Terr Cacilia that “some changes I would like to see in the plus-sized fashion industry would be a commitment to quality fabrication in garments for the mass market. Coming from a family of plus-sized women, I hear and see the struggles that they have when finding luxury garments for any occasion. Nine times out of ten, I wind up making them something because they can’t find what they want. Bodies are bodies and it’s all about proportion. The designer offerings shouldn’t change just because of size.”
