Drag performer James Lee Williams, known onstage as The Vivienne, died the weekend of Jan. 4-5. He was 32, and no cause of death has yet been announced. Born in Wales, Williams came to fame on the 2015 edition of RuPaul's Drag Race—he named his drag persona after Vivienne Westwood. The Vivienne also appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race UK, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and Dancing on Ice. He released an EP (Bitch on Heels) in 2022, and starred as Elphaba in a West End production of Wicked. “Ever since I attended private school in North Wales,” Williams said, “I would turn up with a Louis Vuitton bag, wearing Chanel glasses. Often my accessories would be confiscated. It wasn’t all bad, though. I was stood outside the headmaster’s office one day and another teacher walked past. She gave me a look up and down and then told me I looked fabulous.”
