Candyman star Tony Todd, 69, died at his Los Angeles home on Nov. 6. The 6' 5", booming-voiced actor started his career onstage, both in the classics and modern plays. By the 1980s, he was playing small roles in Platoon, 84 Charing Cross Road, Night Court and other vehicles—a good early showcase was playing the lead in the 1990 Night of the Living Dead remake. In 1992, Todd scored the role of the murderous, hook-handed Candyman, whom he played in three films. Todd had a long, busy career, which included continuing roles in The Young and the Restless, Chuck, Dead of Summer—he also had numerous projects in production at the time of his death. Todd once said that “It’s very interesting that most of the roles I’ve gotten are grim, when I’m actually a very well-adjusted man and had a happy upbringing. I guess there are some dark shadows somewhere in there, but I’m a big kid.”
