All four members of the Venezuelan rock band Van Der Dijs died in the earthquakes of June 24, while they were rehearsing in the the Costamar II building in Tanaguarena. Killed were Manuel van Der Dijs (vocals), Gabriel Gómez (guitar), Xander Hernández (bass), and Abraham Foucault (drums). The group formed just two years ago, and was described as a mix of “nu metal, rap rock, and alternative rock”—they were loud and crashy and not my cup of tea, but I am more of a Valaida Snow girl, so there you are. They toured around the country, and recorded such numbers as “15 Minutos,” “Venpaka,” and “¿Dónde Están?” At the time of their deaths, the band was booked for concerts in Punto Fijo and Valencia.
