Morocco-born Israeli actor Ze'ev Revach, 84, died on Jan. 18. Though he also worked in theater and TV, Revach was best known for his film roles, especially his “Bourekas” films (comic melodramas). He moved to Israel at age 8, and later served in the Defense Forces. He started his film career in the late ’60s, (his biggest hits included Hasamba, Hagiga B'Snuker, and Charlie Ve'hetzi). He won the Israeli Film Academy's best actor awards for Beitar Provence and The Farewell Party, and in 2010 was awarded a lifetime achievement award. At the 70th anniversary of the state of Israel, the minister of Culture and Sports said, "Ze'ev Revach is one of Israel's comedy giants, on the screen and on the stage. Revach is one of the pillars of Israeli culture—an actor, producer, comedian and director—his work in the cinema and theater will be forever engraved in our hearts."
