Actor Chris Robinson, 86, died on June 9. He began his career as an extra and occasional stuntman in the late 1950s, working his way up to bigger roles in The Donna Reed Show, Sea Hunt, Death Valley Days, Ben Casey, Birdman of Alcatraz, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, and many others, till being cast as Sergeant "Sandy" Komansky on 12 O’Clock High (from 1965-67). Robinson’s other recurring roles were on the soaps Another World, The Bold and the Beautiful, and General Hospital (an impressive 35-year run, as Dr. Rick Webber). He also starred in the 1972 horror movie Stanley, and appeared in many, many other TV shows. His best-remembered role was in a series of Vicks Formula 44 commercials, where he uttered the deathless phrase, "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV" (he was eventually replaced by Peter Bergman). Robinson was married five times (including to actresses Phyllis Robinson and Jacquie Shane, and property master—property mistress?—Rhonda Robinson). One of his five children is actor Taylor Joseph Robinson.
