Italian director Francesco Cinquemani, who worked with several fading matinee idols, died on Dec. 12. He was 45; no cause of death has been announced. Cinquemani started his career as a successful journalist, writing for such magazines as Emporio Armani Magazine, Rockstar, Tutto, and Sorrisi e Canzoni. Beginning around 200, he segued to films, writing and directing numerous shorts, the dark sitcom Virus, and a prison documentary, Offstage: Lontano dal Palco. He also worked with Antonio Banderas (Beyond the Edge), John Travolta (The Poison Rose), Tom Arnold (Christmas Thieves, The Good Witch of Christmas), Julian Sands (The Ghosts of Monday), and Alec Baldwin (Billie’s Magic World). Cinquemani had five films in post-production at the time of his death, including three more Santa epics.
