Georgina Cates, 1975 – 2026

What a terrible year for British actresses! Now it’s Georgina Cates, who died on May 6, aged 51. Cates made her name with 1995’s An Awfully Big Adventure, having previously costarred on TV’s 2point4 Children, The Bill, and other shows. Through the 1990s, Cates appeared in the films Frankie Starlight, Illuminata, A Soldier's Sweetheart, and Clay Pigeons, before taking a break from acting. More recently, she was in several short films as well as Sinner, The Closer, Bad Grandpa, and Everlasting. She segued into another career, becoming a fine-art photographer based in L.A. “My photographs are simply reflections of the marriage of life and art that is always present around me,” she said. “I’m compelled by an inextinguishable pursuit for meaningful photography and the artful life.” Cates was married to actor Skeet Ulrich from 1997-2005.
