Irish punk rocker Jock McDonald, 69, died in a swimming accident on July 26 at Bundoran Beach, in County Donegal. McDonald was the front man for the band The Bollock Brothers, which he formed in 1979 and who were still performing at the time of McDonald’s death (their most recent album was released in 2013). The Bollocks enjoyed such punk hits as "Harley David (Son of a Bitch”), "Faith Healer,” "Horror Movies,” "The Bunker,” "The Legend of the Snake,” and "The Slow Removal of the Left Ear of Vincent van Gogh”—they even did a 1983 cover of the Sex Pistols’ “Never Mind the Bollocks.” McDonald told interviewer Fred Gadget of his early days, and his continuing financial woes: “20 years ago we had no chance at all, we had to sign to Charly Records as no one else would take a chance with us. . . . We went on to sell thousands of records, but we never got paid, mate, or I would now be with you in Anvers [Antwerp] with a large cigar and brandy, relaxing by my pool with a nice bird. The other night the Bollocks said to me, ‘Jock, where's our hotel?’ I replied, ‘see those four birds over there at the bar, that’s your hotel mate, go chat them up!’”
