Irish singer Linda Nolan, 65, died of cancer on Jan. 15. Along with her sisters Anne, Denise, Maureen, Coleen, and Bernie (“Bernadette!”), Linda formed The Nolans, a best-selling girl group. From 1974 through recent years, they released such pop hits as "I'm in the Mood for Dancing,” "Gotta Pull Myself Together,” "Who's Gonna Rock You,” "Attention to Me," and "Chemistry"—not a classic Irish music group, they sang mostly catchy disco and pop. Linda also went solo, though she occasionally reunited with her sisters for recordings and tours (“I wanted to go out on my own – and away from being Mary Poppins,” she said). She performed as raunchy emcee “Maggie May” at Blackpool’s Central Pier, also acting in the West End in Blood Brothers and Prisoner: Cell Block H, and serving as a panelist on the talk show Loose Women. "I try to stay positive,” Nolan said of her long cancer battle. "I'll use jokes and humour as a way to cope, but of course it's scary. And I have my days where I'm terribly down. It's easy to sit back and get depressed about it, but I'm still going.”
