Composer and record producer Lucian Piane, 46, was struck and killed by a car in Glendale, CA, on Oct. 12. Piane worked with Marc Shaiman on the films as Team America: World Police, Rumor Has It..., and Hairspray, and the Broadway show Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. He also composed scores for the documentary An Omar Broadway Film, the films Pretty Ugly People, Sorority Row, and worked on RuPaul’s albums Champion, Glamazon, and Born Naked, and served as a judge on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Piane got his biggest public boost from remixing Christian Bale’s 2009 on-set hissy-fit into the mix “Bale Out” (to his credit, Bale said, “They did a bloody good job! I've gotta say, what a great impulse, you know? To take something ugly like that and make it into a dance? That's a wonderful thing.”). Piane had problems with substance abuse and homelessness, as well as unfortunate and increasingly unhinged public outbursts.
