Broadway and film choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett, 78, died of cancer on Jan. 12. She attended New York’s School of American Ballet and danced with Alvin Ailey’s company, and as a Broadway chorine. She turned choreographer, her credits including Shakespeare’s Cabaret, The Boys of Winter, Chess, Sally Marr … and Her Escorts, Titanic, Jackie, and, most notably, Swing! That last show earned her direction and choreographer Tony nominations. Her first film was Footloose, teaching Kevin Bacon his moves; she also worked on The In Crowd, My Blue Heaven, the ill-advised Bewitched remake, and Vanilla Sky. “My goal as a dancer and choreographer is to be understood,” Taylor-Corbett said (and thanks, Hollywood Reporter, for ferreting out this interview! Everything is either blocked or on podcasts these days.). “Dance should not be a cerebral experience that the dancers have and the audiences watch. I want dancers to communicate something and have the audience receive the same thing.”
