Singer Marjorie Needham (The Chordettes) died on Aug. 22. She was 96. Needham earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Empire State College, SUNY, and was working as a flight attendant when she joined the girl group The Chordettes in 1951 (they’d originally formed in 1946). Their biggest hit, “Mr. Sandman,” topped the charts through much of 1955. Their other top singles included the Zorro theme, “Never on Sunday,” "Eddie My Love," "Born to Be with You," "Lay Down Your Arms," and "Just Between You and Me.” The group disbanded in the 1960s. Needham’s family posted, “If you ask Marjorie what she was most proud of, it was her career in human services that began in 1972 . . .  In 1987 she established her own business as sole proprietor of Marjorie Latzko Execu-Care, a personal management service for the elderly, dependent or disabled, which she operated for 27 years . . . Her favorite things were classical music, listening to her audiobooks on notable figures, spending time in the sun listening to her great-grandson Charlie squeal with laughter in the pool, cats, and dessert, especially her nightly ice cream.” I’m with her on the ice cream!
