New Jersey’s PBS station (till recently called WNJN and NJTV; channel 23, where I live) will be going off the air in July 2026, due to the government’s cutting funds to PBS stations. Former governor Chris Christie cut state funding to PBS a few years ago, and recently the Federal Government forced the closing of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I’ll still be able (I hope!) to see New York’s PBS station, but a lot of the local, oddball shows generated in NJ will be cancelled (the station also used to run Britcom nights on weekends, which introduced me to Miranda, Upstart Crow and The Goes Wrong Show, among other delights). Also, NJ news will no longer be covered on TV (as if NY or CT give a damn about NJ!). Micah Rasmussen of Rider University says, “Newspapers have all but disappeared and you really have to fend for yourself at this point to stay informed . . . Our elected officials, our corporations, our institutions think that they can get away with more when no one is paying attention.”
