Singer Rebekah Del Rio, best known for David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, was found dead in her L.A. home on June 23. She was 57. Del Rio was already a popular singer and had recorded her Spanish-language version of “Crying” when Lynch asked her to perform it in 2001’s Mulholland Drive (I really must give that film another try; I hated it the only time I watched, despite the presence of Ann Miller). “There were many takes,” Del Rio said. “And with every take, I sang along, because I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it. I also wanted the beautiful girls in the balcony, Laura Harring and Naomi Watts, to experience it live. They were present while I was doing my scene, so I sang to them.” She also performed "No Stars" in Twin Peaks: The Return, and toured in a Twin Peaks-themed concert. Del Rio also acted in Southland Tales, 2307: Winter’s Dream, and This Teacher, and her voice was heard in several TV and movie soundtracks.
