The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has signed a deal with YouTube to stream (do I have that right? Probably not) the annual Oscars show (and the pre-show fashion parade, I wonder?) on YouTube, and no longer on TV. Now, I am a big fan of YouTube—the only thing about this stupid century I approve of—but I am damn well not going to watch the Oscars on my computer or phone. (Yes, I know there’s a way to watch YouTube on my Smart TV, but my TV is a lot smarter than I am). The Academy says that they want to make the Oscars available to “the Academy’s growing global audience through features such as closed captioning and audio tracks available in multiple languages.” Oh, go jump in the lake, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
