Spanish movie and TV star Verónica Echegaray, 42, died of cancer in her home town of Madrid on Aug. 24. Echegaray trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, then worked her way up in stage, screen and TV roles till getting her big break playing a hopeful actress in 2006’s My Name Is Juani. She costarred in such TV series as Paco y Veva, Fortitude, Apaches, 3 Caminos, Intimacy, and Love You to Death (which she was still appearing in at the time of her death). Echegaray was known for her versatility, appearing in dramas, comedies and even musicals (My Heart Goes Boom!). She played a convict in My Prison Yard, a waitress in Bunny and the Bull, a blind woman in Six Points About Emma, and a cop in Unknown Origins. "We don't face the reality that we're all going to die,” Echegaray said recently. “We try to live bypassing that it's inevitable and we're going to go through it. In fact, I don't remember any course in school where they'll tell us about death. I wonder how we would live it if they had told us about it.” Echegaray had been in a long-term relationship with actor Álex García.
